[ Friends ] Open Question : If you let your room mate use your tv and he breaks it and buys another, whos tv is the new one?
i had a room mate move in a while ago and didnt have a tv but wanted one, so my husband and i let him use our tv from our bedroom. He knew it was a loaner. We told him to use a surge proctecter because we live in an old building and our tv isnt the newest and we had other things go bad using things plugged into the outlet he wanted to use. He didnt get the surge protecter and within a week or so our tv blew up (so to speak). The room mate went out that night and bought a really cheap tv off craigslist for $25. Things didnt work out with the room mate (didnt pay bills, ate all our food all the time and never replaced it, never bought anything for the house like dish soap...) so he ended up getting a different place. He thinks the tv he bought is his, we think its ours. He says its his because he paid for it. Sure, he paid for it but thats only because he broke ours by not doing what we told him to do, so now he expects us to go without a tv when we were just trying to be nice by letting him use ours. So, who does this tv belong to? And just on a side note, we have the tv, we wont give it to him. Our tv he broke cost us a few hundred dollars. Not $25! But hes constantly harrasing us and threatening to call police even though we told him that if he calls cops hes gonna need a receipt for them to allow him to take it out of our house of whivh he doesnt have. And another conflict is over a futon. He didnt have a bed when he moved in so he slept on the couch for several weeks which was extremely inconvenient for us because he went to bed early so we were forced out of our living room so he could sleep. We heard at least 3 or 4 times per week he was going to get a futon, but he never did (because he spent all his money going to the bar every night). So we finally got fed up with it and bought a futon for him with the expectation of being paid back. After 9 months of living here, he never paid for it. He never even said thank you! When he moved out we kept the futon because
