[ Teaching ] Open Question : Teacher desiring MS or even PhD in geology/geochemistry? Advice?
I have my B.A. in Chemistry and I'm finishing up my M.A.T (Master of Arts in Teaching). As I've been looking at high school teaching positions or instructor positions, it seems that nowadays, schools want people who are extremely knowledgeable in their fields and so employers are often looking to see whether teachers have MS degrees in their field. While I like chemistry, I'm not passionate enough about it to desire to complete an MS in it. However, more recently, I discovered that I'm really interested in geology and maybe geochemistry.
My question is, what do you think about an MS in geology or geochemistry? What about a PhD? Because PhD programs are free, I'm considering entering one and maybe changing my mindset altogether and teaching at the college level.
If I don't decide to do that however, are there other options? Does anyone here have any experience in the fields and can lend some insight? Thanks!
