[ Singles & Dating ] Open Question : Why do people always assume I am already in a relationship?

It gets me on my nerves. if im texting someone, wearing a new bracelet, sitting in class, my friends or acquaintances always suppose it's related to a special someone somehow (that its a gift from him, or im texting him, or im saving a seat for him.. etc etc, and this him doesn't even exist) I'm into having only serious relationships that i feel will last, so i haven't met someone i like for a while now. in brief, people in college always seem to assume i already have a "special someone"... ive liked a couple few guys and theyve shown interest in me, but at the end of the day it seems it's all in my head. right now for example, there's a guy who stared at me a lott last year and this semester, but once there was a chance for him to talk to me, he didn't even comment and since then he hasn't acknowledged my presence. it's all stares, and no words. apparent feelings but not even slight flirting. all signs but nothing real. not to sound self-absorbed, but i'm pretty and smart and funny, so let's just assume that's not the issue. i want to know what could i do about this.
