Macho Man Randy Savage Dies in Car Accident

Macho Man Randy Savage

One of the most famous wrestlers of all time, Macho Man Randy Savage, died today in a car accident in Tampa, Florida.

Randy’s brother, Lanny Poffo, says that the wrestling legend suffered a heart attack while he was behind the wheel around 9:25 this morning, and lost control of the vehicle. Florida Highway Patrol reports that Savage was driving his 2009 Jeep Wrangler when he veered across a concrete median, through oncoming traffic, and “collided head-on with a tree.”

Savage was transported to Largo Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.

Savage’s wife of one year, Lynn, was a passenger in the vehicle during the collision, but survived with “minor injuries.” She was transported to a different local hospital where she was treated.

Savage was 58.

Macho Man began his pro-wrestling career in 1973, and joined the WWF in 1985. He became a superstar with his trademark catchphrase, “Ooooooh Yeaaaaah.” He was a seven-time world champion during his 9 year career with the WWF. In 1994, he left for WCW, where he wrestled until 1999. After a short stint with Total Nonstop Action Wrestling, Savage retired in 2005.

Forbes Names Lady Gaga the Most Powerful Celebrity in the World

It seems Oprah Winfrey is no longer the most powerful celebrity in the world. Lady Gaga, she of the crazy makeup and raw meat dress, topped Forbes magazine's annual list of the 100 most powerful celebrities, bumping the beloved talk show host from the top slot.

Gaga moved up four spots on Forbe’s list, which ranks celebrities based on earnings, popularity on the Internet, and mentions in newspapers and on radio. Though Lady Gaga earned $200 million less than Oprah Winfrey, the “Born This Way” singer bested Oprah because of her social media savvy.

"Lady Gaga beat Oprah this year because of her social media power," said Forbes editor Dorothy Pomerantz. "She's the best example of how celebrities will need to manage their careers in the coming years."

So just how strong is Lady Gaga's social media presence? The performer commands 10 million Twitter followers and 32 million Facebook fans, and Gaga’s devoted fan base, the “Little Monsters,” also downloaded the singer’s newest single, “Born This Way,” over a million times in just five days. Not too shabby.

Other celebrities in the top ten include Justin Bieber, who is no stranger to social media himself, U2, Elton John, Tiger Woods, Taylor Swift, Bon Jovi, Simon Cowell, and LeBron James.

Michelle Williams Cast as Glinda The Good Witch

Disney’s Wizard of Oz prequel, Oz: The Great and Powerful, hit a snag recently as Disney executives and Director Sam Raimi butted heads over the casting of Glinda the Good Witch. Director Sam Raimi favored two time Oscar winner Hillary Swank for the part but the studio stood firm on Michelle Williams.

Disney won the battle and has cast two time Oscar nominee Michelle Williams in the iconic role of Glinda the Good Witch. The star studded cast includes James Franco, as the salesman who becomes the wizard; Mila Kunis as Theodora, a pre-wicked Witch of the West and Rachel Weisz as Evanora, an already wicked witch.

The premise of the prequel is that the Wizard, a snake oil salesman, is carried off in a balloon to a magical land where he encounters real witches. Theodora falls for the Wizard, Evanora wants to rule the land, and Glinda joins forces with the Wizard to defeat the wicked witch.

Williams is presently working on a western, Meek’s Cutoff, and is appearing later this year as Marilyn Monroe in the movie, My Week With Marilyn.  She will also be co-starring with Seth Rogen and Sarah Silverman in the dramedy  Take This Waltz.
