John Galliano, who has been the chief designer at Christian Dior since 1996, has been suspended of his duties following an arrest on Thursday. Galliano was suspended from the fashion house after he was arrested for allegedly assaulting a woman and making anti-Semitic remarks at an outdoor café in Paris.
“The House of Dior declares with the greatest firmness its policy of zero tolerance with regard to ay anti-Semitic or racist statement or attitude,” Dior boss Sidney Toledano said in a statement. “Pending the outcome of the [police] enquiry, Christian Dior has suspended John Galliano from all duties.”
Yikes, that’s two celebs in one day accused of anti-Semitism! Not good, guys. Not good.
According to French news reports, Galliano, 50, was detained in the French capital’s fashionable Marais district after he allegedly verbally accosted a couple in a bar called The Pearl. Allegedly, Galliano had been drinking and told a woman and told her she and her purse were ugly. It’s not clear why Galliano approached the woman, who was dining with her husband, or what exactly was said. The woman filed a police report.
Police are investigating the case before it is handed over to the public prosecutor’s office.

In an E! News interview, James Franco is seemingly annoyed at the idea that Ricky Gervais wrote a sample monologue for him and his cohost Anne Hathaway to use at the 83rd Annual Academy Awards this Sunday.
“He did his award show and he bombed. Why is he trying to get in on ours?” Franco told reporter Jason Kennedy, after Kennedy presented him with Gervais’ jokes.
“Horrible. His lines weren’t good on the Golden Globes,” Franco remarked as he read the lines. “Why does he want to do our lines?”
Among Gervais’ jabs was a joke about Hathaway being cast as Catwoman (“And I’m the new Catwoman. The first white woman to play that role since Michelle Pfeiffer. I want it to be an inspiration to all white people everywhere. Your dreams can come true in Hollywood too”). Franco and Hathaway gave their first interview together to the new issue of The Hollywood Reporter, and in that interview Hathaway said she wouldn’t be making any Gervais-style jokes during the Oscars.
“I can guarantee that if you’re looking for someone to call people out, we’re not your hosts,” she said. “I think that humor is really difficult to pull off, and I’m not particularly adept at it. I wouldn’t feel comfortable.”
