Dexter actress Aimee Garcia has joined the cast of the remake of Robocop, which also stars Joel Kinnaman. The film began shooting in Toronto last week, and it's being directed by Jose Padilha.
Marc Abraham and Eric Newman are producing the 1980s sci-fi remake, in which Garcia will play a scientist who helps put together the Robocop with his creator, who will be played by Gary Oldman. But this doesn't mean she's leaving Dexter—she's currently working on episodes for her second season (the show's seventh). In it, she plays Dexter's nanny and Detective Angel Batista's sister. That show premieres on September 30.And if that wasn't enough, Garcia will also be appearing regularly on CBS' new crime drama, Vegas, which stars Dennis Quaid and Michael Chiklis, which premieres on September 25.Along with Gary Oldman and Joel Kinnaman, Garcia joins a cast that includes Samuel L. Jackson, Abbie Cornish, and Michael Keaton. Clive Owen is also rumored to be a part of the upcoming film. The remake of Robocop is set for release next year, on August 9, 2013, and has an estimated budget of $100 million—which, unfortunately, likely won't stop it from being just another terrible remake of an '80s movie.Source: http://blog.starcam.com/post/aimee-garcia-joins-cast-of-robocop.aspx
Lately, sequels are released within a few years of their previous counterparts, but that's not the case with Stephen King's upcoming sequel to The Shining. Doctor Sleep will be released in September 2013, the author announced today on his website. That will make it 36 years since The Shining was released in 1977, and 33 years since its movie incarnation, which came out in 1980 and famously starred Jack Nicholson.
King read a portion of the book last year at George Mason University, and a recap of that reading noted that the sequel deals with Danny Torrance, the son from the original, and his adult life.
In Doctor Sleep, Danny is a hospice worker who uses his powers to help sick patients pass away without pain. Unfortunately, according to i09, "he runs afoul of a gang of wandering psychic vampires who feed on people's energy."
The book also deals with a "special" 12-year-old girl that he has to save from the murderous vampires. The book is said to be an "epic war between good and evil, a gory, glorious story that will thrill the millions of hyper-devoted readers of The Shining and wildly satisfy anyone new to the territory of this icon in the King canon."
It looks interesting, and we're curious if it will get made into a movie in the next several years; we'd venture to say yes, but you never know.
