In American Idol news, there were many tears streaming down contestants faces as they were being whittled away to the top 24.
One Idol hopeful, Chris Medina, was the last to be turned away Wednesday night, causing J-Lo’s to break down. Many remember Medina as the contestant who still takes care of his fiancée after a horrible accident that left her in a wheelchair.
That story touched the millions of Idol viewers, causing them to donate money to the family to the tune of over $14,000.
Another viewer, producer Rodney Jerkins, wrote a song for Medina entitled “What Are Words.” Jerkins, known for his work with artists such as Brandy, was moved by Medina’s story and wrote the song specifically for him.
“When I heard the story of Chris and Juliana, the words and music just flowed,” Jerkins said in a press release.
“To be able to work in the studio with someone of his stature was a dream come true,” Medina added in the same release.
AOL will debut the video for “What Are Words” Friday at 2PM EST. Later that night Medina will be a guest on The Late Show with Jay Leno.
On March 1 audiences will see their top 24 Idols, sans Medina, perform and will finally be able to vote for their favorites. This year, for the first time ever, American Idol is allowing online voting.
Viewers can travel to AmericanIdol.com and login through their Facebook accounts. They will be allowed to cast up to 50 votes for their favorite singer.
Fans will still be able to utilize text message and toll-free voting as well.
Find out just who will be in the top 24 tonight when American Idol airs on Fox at 8PM.
