Bill Murray has agreed to play President Franklin Delano Roosevelt in the upcoming Focus Features film, Hyde Park On The Hudson.

The movie scheduled for release in 2012 is adapted from Richard Nelson’s British radio play of the same name.  The play revolves around Roosevelt’s alleged steamy love affair with his distant cousin Margaret Stuckley.  It is set during a weekend visit with King George VI and the Queen at Roosevelt’s Hyde Park estate, marking the first time British royalty travelled to America.

Filming is scheduled to begin in July of 2011 with director Roger Michell. Michell has directed such hits as Notting Hill and Morning Glory

Murray, 60, who is best known for his comedic abilities in Caddyshack, Ghostbusters, Ground Hog Day and What about Bob?, will tackle this rare serious role. The actor is no stranger to serious roles, he has been cast in other staid roles in Rushmore and Lost in Translation, for which he was nominated for an Oscar.  This will by far be his most serious role yet.

Murray is also working on the Wes Anderson project, Moonrise Kingdom and the much anticipated Ghostbusters III.
