Bono Hitches A Ride With NHL Player Gilbert Brule

The paths of two celebrities from different arenas crossed this week in a most unlikely way. Edmonton Oilers player Gilbert Brule and his girlfriend were driving Wednesday night when he spotted two people along the side of road hitching a ride. He was certain one of them was Bono.
Brule’s girlfriend, Kelsey Nichols kept driving. “I didn’t believe him”, she said.
Brule talked her into turning around. As they approached the hitchhikers they yelled out “Bono!” Sure enough Brule was right. It was Bono and his assistant in need of a little help.
It seems they had gone for a walk and it started to rain. The legendary rocker asked if they could get a lift to Horseshoe Bay. Brule and Nichols were more than happy to oblige. The four chatted about music, hockey and their countries. Then Bono invited the two to attend his show the following night. They did after they sold their tickets to Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals.
Bono included backstage passes, on which he wrote, “Thanks for the ride” and “my hero Gilbert”.
At the show Bono gave a shout out to Gilbert and Kelsey saying,” I’ve decided I want to be Gilbert Brule” because “people who play ice hockey are the kind of people who pick up hitchhikers.”
