Celebrity Doppelgangers

Doppelgangers. They say that we all have one. Someone that looks remarkably like you, to the point of even being called your twin.
What is even stranger is when celebrities have these look-a-likes… who are other celebrities! They’re both in movies/television shows and successful, but people have a hard time telling them apart.
Don’t know what I’m talking about? I’ll give you three examples.
First: Amy Adams and Isla Fisher.
These two redheads look ridiculously alike. I always confuse the two, especially when I’m watching Wedding Crashers (which Fisher was in, by the way). The two actresses are around the same age, they have similar hair and facial features. The one thing that tells them apart is that Adams tends to go for more cutesy or serious roles while Fisher goes for more comedic roles (which could be due to her engagement to funnyman Sacha Baron Cohen).
During an interview with Allure in 2009, Fisher even acknowledged the similarities between her and Adams by saying, “If Shopaholic is a hit, then it was Isla Fisher in the movie, and if it doesn’t work out, it was Amy Adams.”
Adams recently received an Oscar nomination for her role in The Fighter, and was also seen in Enchanted, Julia & Julia, and Sunshine Cleaning. Her next film will be The Muppets. Fisher is best known for her roles in Wedding Crashers, Confessions of a Shopaholic, and voiced a character in the recent animated film, Rango.
Second: Johnny Depp and Skeet Ulrich.

When I watched Scream for the first time a week ago (I know, I’m way behind) I was amazed at how closely Ulrich resembled Depp. From the hair hanging down in his eyes all the way to that smoldering look. I had no idea there was a Johnny Depp twin out there roaming around! Then I started looking on the internet and realized that this was a huge thing in the ‘90s.
When Scream first came out, David Spade made a comment on Saturday Night Live saying, “Skeet Ulrich? Johnny Depp called. He wants his DNA back.” Then at the 1999 MTV Video Music Awards, Chris Rock introduced Johnny Depp as “the rich man’s Skeet Ulrich.”
Obviously Depp’s career catapulted and Ulrich’s really… didn’t. Depp was already a movie star, doing movies such as Edward Scissorhands, What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, the TV show 21 Jump Street, and the list could really go on and on. His 2003 choice to star in Pirates of the Caribbean really shot him to superstardom, though. Ulrich, on the other hand, had As Good as It Gets along with a TV series called Jericho.
Third: Natalie Portman and Keira Knightly.

I never realized, until someone pointed it out, that these two look like twins separated at birth. I guess I just never saw a picture side by side before. Because now, I can definitely see it.
The actresses look so much alike that a 14-year-old Keira Knightly was cast as 16-year-old Natalie Portman’s double in Star Wars: Episode 1. Portman played Queen Amidala and Padme while Knightly played her hand maiden, Sabe. In the film, Sabe was used as the queen’s decoy. When Knightly was in full costume and makeup, even Portman’s mom thought she was her daughter.
Fast forward to the present. Knightly made her own career that really started with the Pirates of the Caribbean films and has continued through many period pieces. Portman recently won an Oscar for her role in Black Swan. She is also just released four other films, got engaged, and is pregnant with her first child.
So maybe that’s how you make it in show business? Hollywood likes a certain look and they go for it. Or if you find your twin, you at least know you can find work as a stunt double. Whatever the case, there’s no denying the phenomenon is out there.
What do you think? Can you tell these actors and actresses apart?
