?Celebrity Vinyl? Pokes Fun at Unsuccessful Celebrity Singers

The funny thing about celebrities is that once they conquer one area of entertainment they try to conquer them all. Models become actors, actors become authors, authors became models, and of course every celebrity want to release an album, be it a reality TV star, an well-known actress, or a Playboy Bunny. Author Tom Hamling pokes fun at this phenomenon in his quirky new paperback, Celebrity Vinyl, a “laugh-riot reminder of what happens when famous people decide to (unsuccessfully) give singing a try.”

Celebrity Vinyl (Mark Batty Publisher, $19.95) features the album covers of over 100 unlikely celebrity singers, including John Travolta, Alyssa Milano, “Rappin’” Rodney Dangerfield, and many more. Hamling was inspired to collect celebrity album covers after the advertising agency he worked for decided to transfer its audio library to CDs and the author has since assembled an impressive collection.

“Sometimes I feel like Dr. Richard Kimble in search of the one-armed man,” Hamling says of his ongoing search. “Except my one-armed man is the inaudible shriek of Jennifer Love Hewitt.”

Though Celebrity Vinyl was originally published in 2008, the book has been recently updated and USA Today reports that half the proceeds go to the charity 826LA.

Here are a few funny photos from Celebrity Vinyl. Which album cover is your favorite?
