Christian Bale Joins David O. Russell's Next Film

He's a flip-flopper—Christian Bale previously dropped David O. Russell's next film from his schedule, but now he's back onboard for the upcoming drama. Bale will join a cast that includes Bradley Cooper, Jeremy Renner, and Amy Adams.

The as-yet-untitled project is based on the true story of a notorious financial con artist (who Bale will portray) and his mistress/partner in crime (Adams), who were forced to work with a federal agent who is out of control (Cooper) to turn the tables on other con artists, politicians, and mobsters. At the center of the story is Renner's character, the passionate and volatile leader of the New Jersey State Assembly, who is also the local hero and mayor of poverty-ridden Camden.

Bale dropped out of the film in July, but now that he's back on, it's sort of a reunion movie for Russell, Bale, and Adams, who all worked together on The Fighter. Russell also worked with Bradley Cooper on Silver Linings Playbook. It will be his first time working with Renner.

Russell wrote the screen play with Eric Warren Singer, and it's based on Singer's original draft.

Atlas Entertainment's Charles Roven and Richard Suckle will produce alongside Annapurna Pictures' Megan Ellison and Ted Schipper. Jon Gordon will executive produce.

The film is set for tentative release in late 2013.
