"Dexter" Star Aimee Garcia Joins "Robocop"

Dexter actress Aimee Garcia has joined the cast of the remake of Robocop, which also stars Joel Kinnaman. The film began shooting in Toronto last week, and it's being directed by Jose Padilha.

Marc Abraham and Eric Newman are producing the 1980s sci-fi remake, in which Garcia will play a scientist who helps put together the Robocop with his creator, who will be played by Gary Oldman.

But this doesn't mean she's leaving Dexter—she's currently working on episodes for her second season (the show's seventh). In it, she plays Dexter's nanny and Detective Angel Batista's sister. That show premieres on September 30.

And if that wasn't enough, Garcia will also be appearing regularly on CBS' new crime drama, Vegas, which stars Dennis Quaid and Michael Chiklis, which premieres on September 25.

Along with Gary Oldman and Joel Kinnaman, Garcia joins a cast that includes Samuel L. Jackson, Abbie Cornish, and Michael Keaton. Clive Owen is also rumored to be a part of the upcoming film.

The remake of Robocop is set for release next year, on August 9, 2013, and has an estimated budget of $100 million—which, unfortunately, likely won't stop it from being just another terrible remake of an '80s movie.
