Dr. Death, Jack Kevorkian Has Died

Jack Kevorkian, 83, the Michigan pathologist who advocated assisted suicide in the cases of the terminally and chronically ill, has died.

Kevorkian suffered from heart ailments and kidney problems.  It is believed that he suffered a pulmonary thrombosis when a blood clot may have dislodged from a led and settled in his heart.  He was not put on life support, his attorney Mayer Morganroth told the paper.

The trained pathologist assisted with about 130 suicides of terminally ill or chronically ill patients during the 1990’s.  He was convicted of second degree murder after he sent a tape to 60 Minutes of him helping a terminally ill man.  He lost his medical license and was sentenced to 10-25 years but was released in 2007.

Kevorkian’s niece, Ana Janus and his attorney were at his side when he died.  Morganroth told the paper, “it was peaceful, he didn’t feel a thing.”

Hospital staff felt that his passing was a tremendous loss.  His attorney agreed saying,” He did so much.”

Al Pacino earned an Emmy last year for his role as Kevorkian in the HBO movie, You Don’t Know Jack.

Assisted suicide remains a controversial subject with some believing we treat our pets better than we treat humans when they suffer.  Morganroth doubts that anyone will step up and assume the role of advocate for assisted suicide.
