Elizabeth Taylor Cheated Death 53 Years Ago

On March 22, 1958 Elizabeth Taylor suffered a devastating tragedy, when her third husband, Mike Todd, was killed in a plane crash. Ironically, 53 years later, almost to the day, Taylor succumbed to congestive heart failure.
Taylor was supposed to be on that ill fated flight with Todd, a movie producer, along with a few friends as they travelled from Burbank, California to New York aboard Todd’s private plane, the Lucky Liz.
Taylor was battling a cold and despite her protests, Todd insisted that she stay home.
Later that day the plane crashed near Grants N.M. killing Todd and the 3 other passengers on aboard.
His death was traumatic, driving Taylor infamously into the arms of Todd’s best friend, Eddie Fisher. Their relationship was quite scandalous at the time as Fisher was still very much married to Debbie Reynolds. The two received much unwelcomed attention as a result of their affair.
Ultimately Reynolds divorced Fisher, paving the way for him to marry Taylor in 1959. The two would divorce in 1964 just days before Taylor married Richard Burton for the first time.
During an interview with Larry King, Taylor admitted her two soulmates were Mike Todd and Richard Burton.
“I loved them passionately," she told King in 2006.
