Gregg Allman to Write Memoir

Music fans can look forward to yet another rocker memoir. Allman Brothers frontman Gregg Allman has signed with William Morrow, an imprint of HarperCollins, to write a book about his “crazy journey” in the music industry.

“When I got out of high school, I thought, I’ll take a year off and play the clubs, get this out of my system and then go to med school,” Allman said in a release. “More than 40 years later, I figure it’s finally time to write about this crazy journey that’s taken me around the world and back.”

The 63-year-old musician will write about the formation of the Allman Brothers as well as his marriage to Cher and his struggle with drugs and alcohol. The memoir, as yet untitled, is expected to hit bookshelves next spring.

A founding member of the Allman Brothers Band, Gregg Allman was inducted with the band into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995 and received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Georgia Music Hall of Fame in 2006. Rolling Stones also named Allman one of the “100 Greatest Singers of All Time.” The musician currently lives in Richmond, Virginia with his wife Stacey.
