?Home Alone? House Up for Sale for $2.4M

It’s a piece of film history – the house made famous by Home Alone is now on the market for a cool $2.4 million.
The 4,250-square-foot Georgian is located in suburban Chicago, in a town called Winnetka. It has 14 rooms, 3.2 baths, a screened-in porch, and of course, the famous staircase that Macaulay Culkin slid down in the movie. It sits on a half-acre of land.
Listing agent Marissa Hopkins, of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage, says, “The $2.4 million isn’t just because of its cinematic history. It really is a residential masterpiece.”
The original owners bought the house in 1988 for $875,000 – still rather expensive! Emptynesters John and Cynthia Abendshien admit that now may not be the best time to sell the house, given the current real estate market. But, Cynthia says, “We just decided we couldn’t wait any longer.”
To prevent gawkers and fans from storming the home, there will be no open houses, and buyers will all be pre-screened.
“It would be a zoo,” Hopkins says. “There are a lot of people who would like to see the Home Alone house if they were given the opportunity.”
In other movie-houses-for-sale news, the Chicago-area home that was featured in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off has been taken off the market. It originally went on the market listed at $2.3 million, but it had most recently been offered just $1.65 million, says Coldwell Banker agent Meladee Hughes.
