Jane Lynch on Adopt the Arts, ?Glee,? What She Was Like in School & Why She?ll Never be on ?Dancing with the Stars?

Jane Lynch wasn?t just another celebrity attending the Adopt the Arts Launch Event. She was hosting it! StarCam?s Jennifer Tapiero chatted with the her about the work she?s done with the organization, what it?s like working on Glee and what she was like in school.

?In Los Angeles we?ve been completely cut. The budget has been completely gutted. There is no money for the arts, and we all know, especially Matt [Sorum] and myself, how important the arts are to the kids and we know how important they were to us,? said Jane. ?My child goes to a public school and we have a very strong fundraising arm and we?ve come up with three-quarters of a million dollars every year to bring art teachers, dance classes, choir and instruments?I know that there are schools out there that can?t raise that kind of money, so we?re going to do it for them.?

In addition to making a difference in the education programs of young kids, Jane also has impacted them in another way. By playing the role of Sue Sylvester on the hit TV series Glee, she?s been able to influence their esteem, make them laugh and most of all, encourage them to push through the tough times!

?Being on Glee has just been really wonderful and I don?t mean to overstate it, but I think that Glee has done so much for kids in terms of the arts?Music is also the great equalizer. It?s where you can have a jock and a cheerleader, a nerd, a woodshop guy, you know? Everybody comes together and makes a joyful noise,? said Jane. ?I think bullying has been going on forever, but I?m so glad that Ryan Murphy takes it as his responsibility to create stories around what?s really important for kids. There?s a lot of gay kids out there. There?s a lot of kids that are just being bullied period, and I think it?s just important to have that stuff out there. Obviously it touches people and it makes the kids feel like they?re not alone; and they aren?t alone?I think people are really doing a lot to help kids these days.?

When Jane was in school, it?s no surprise she was a class clown. She told Jen that she used her sense of humor as a defense, but ultimately tried to stay under the radar. She didn?t want to be made fun of or ridiculed. Also appropriate, the place she felt the most comfortable and the most like herself was in choir every day. Despite her vocal abilities, she?s not the greatest dancer. Jane swears she will never, ever do Dancing with the Stars and that there?s no worse way she could think of to spend her time!
