Jay Ali on Being the Unsung Hero of "Darling Companion" as the Veterinarian
Jay Ali, who plays the veterinarian in Darling Companion, chatted with StarCam's Jennifer Tapiero at the film's premiere about being nervous next to co-star Diane Keaton, what it was like working with dogs, and how his character is actually the unsung hero of the movie.
"Sharing screen time with such amazing people is what dreams are made of," he said of the cast. "I turned up a couple years ago with just a suitcase and to now be doing a film with legends, it's very, very special."
He did admit that it was different working with dogs, saying, "I was very, very lucky because Casey was such a great dog? he wasn't difficult or anything. He did what he was told; he made my job very, very easy."
What was it like working with his other, more famous human co-stars?
"Nerves come along a little bit when you're standing opposite Diane Keaton? but because they're such great people they make you feel very relaxed, the rest of it comes pretty easy," he said.
He also joked around about his character and a special moment he shares with Elizabeth Moss.
"I'm actually the unsung hero of the film I like to say because I actually save the dog," he said. "They find it on the freeway but that dog had had it, unless I came and saved the day."
"Me and Elizabeth Moss share a moment over the operating table and the rest is history," he explained. "We get married and that's where all the magic begins."
