Jimmy Fallon Signed For Third Season
Some may have been skeptical when Jimmy Fallon took over the Late Night hosting job from Conan O’Brien, wondering if the SNL sketch man could take his act from Weekend Update to a regular stint on Late Night. After two seasons of hilarious segments Fallon has proven time and again he is the right man for the job.
NBC seems to agree. They quietly re-signed the comedian earlier this season. Fallon’s extension will keep him behind the desk at Late Night through early 2012.
This move let’s NBC keep their lead in the late night line up ratings. Jay Leno will remain with The Tonight Show and Last Call with Carson Daily has also been renewed for another season.
Fallon has been able to grow his ratings 16 percent this year with 1.8 million viewers on average. He has a strong hold on the adult demographic and has widened the lead over CBS’ The Late Show with Craig Ferguson. Fallon’s hosting of the Emmy’s last summer was also a huge boost to Late Night, with its largest viewership since 2006.Fallon may be winning the late night wars, but one battleground he hasn’t proven himself on yet is the ice cream war. Fallon and Ben & Jerry’s have introduced Late Night Snack, a signature flavor developed by Fallon featuring vanilla ice cream with caramel swirls and chocolate covered potato chips. As it was introduced Fallon took a dig at Stephen Colbert’s Ben & Jerry’s Americone Dream saying, “Oh my gosh-ice cream cones in ice cream, what a genius idea. He’s Albert Einstein.” Perhaps he will win that war too.
