Matt Sorum on the Difference Adopt the Arts has Made For Him and Kids in Los Angeles

Matt Sorum spearheaded the Adopt the Arts Launch Event. He?s to co-president of the organization that is working hard to bring the arts back into schools in Los Angeles. He told StarCam?s Jennifer Tapiero why the cause is so important.

?The idea is that a person, like Johnathon [Schaech] will adopt a school, or two or three or whatever he can handle. We?ll start with one, and then he?s going to go in and inspire the kids by being the cool dude that he is?we?ll get everyone excited; the kids inspired; the parents inspired,? said Matt, who went on to say that he?s already raised enough money in just one week to pay the salary of the art teacher at his pilot school for two years!

The kids definitely get a lot out of this charity?s efforts, but so do the celebrities. Matt has been working with schools in L.A. for quite some time now and he?s gotten to know the kids to the point that they?re able to improve his days too.

?Whenever I?m feeling a little down?I go to my school to see my kids and they just make me feel so good because they?re so excited and they?re so fresh and new on the planet? That?s the beauty of music and art,? he said. ?We need to keep this alive because the kids are just finding their way? They?re dabbling and if we take that away, they?re not going to have that go to? It?s the one time of the day when they?re all doing something together. I don?t care if it?s the kind-of quirky kid or the heavy-set kid or the black kid or the white kid or the Asian kid or the Mexican-American kid; they?re all doing it together, unified. They?re not competing on the sports field. They?re not competing for test scores. That?s a unified vibe and that?s what we need in this world.?

Adopt the Arts is hoping to fund programs in 60 schools in just three years. Matt stressed that we?re all in this together and we all want the same things. Keeping the arts means keeping kids inspired and motivated, which ultimately keeps them in school and out of prison. Log on to the organization?s website to find out how you can make a difference!
