Michael Arndt to Write New "Star Wars" Film

When it was announced that Disney had bought Lucasfilm and would produce future Star Wars films, one of the first pieces of news to run regarding a new movie was that Toy Story 3 writer Michael Arndt would pen it. The confirmation ended speculation that he would, as Arndt had been working with Lucasfilm for several months on a treatment for the movie.
He had written a 40- to 50-page treatment for the next movie, which will mark the beginning of the series' final trilogy. It will bring the saga that focuses on the Skywalkers (Annakin/Darth Vader, Luke, and Princess Leia) to a conclusion, and is said to tell the story of a new generation of heroes.
The upcoming film will feature appearances by Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher, who played Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia (respectively) in the original trilogy (episodes four, five, and six). Other characters from the original films are also rumored to appear in the new one.
There's no start date for Episode 7 yet, but with Arndt writing the movie, it's likely to be a hit; he won an Oscar for his work on Little Miss Sunshine, and was nominated for his script of Toy Story 3. He also co-wrote the screenplay for Catching Fire, the next installment of the Hunger Games trilogy.
