Movies and Shows to Watch Over 4th of July Weekend

The 4th of July is all about barbecues, pool parties, and fireworks. It's summer's biggest party, but if the weather turns nasty or you get sunburned early in the day, it can also be the perfect time to settle in for a movie marathon. Theaters can be packed with people lining up to see the latest blockbuster, so we've got you covered with this list of summer TV and movie classics that are streaming online.

Some of the sites you can access for free, while others require a nominal monthly membership fee.

TV Shows

Saved by the Bell Season 5: I don't know about you, but when I think of summer on TV, the first thing that comes to mind is Zack Morris & Co. working for Mr. Carosi at the beach club. Hands-down my favorite Saved by the Bell episodes of all time.

Gossip Girl Season 2: Would you rather be in the Hamptons? Then jump on the Jitney with the S & B as they kick off Season 2 with lawn parties, sunbathing and (as always) plenty of drama.

Mythbusters Big Blasts: Can't buy fireworks legally? Don’t feel like dealing with crowds? Then stay in and watch the Mythbusters' special dedicated to all of their biggest and baddest explosions. Who needs fireworks when you can watch Jamie and Adam blow stuff up?

Stephen Fry in America: Yeah, I know, it's a little weird to have a show hosted by a British guy on my 'patriotic holiday movie guide', but deal with it. Stephen Fry is hilarious and insanely intelligent, and his journey through all 50 states is certifiably delightful.

Veronica Mars: Alright, it's not technically summer-related or patriotic, but every summer needs a fling and there's no better romance than Veronica and Logan. Dare I call it epic?

Movies

Dirty Dancing: You can never go wrong with Johnny and Baby falling in love to one of the greatest soundtracks of all time.

Wet Hot American Summer: One of the funniest movies I've ever seen, my summer is never complete without revisiting Camp Firewood in 1981.

The Endless Summer: This vintage surfing film is a must on any summer viewing list.

Jazz on a Summer's Day: Prefer live music to action-packed blockbusters? You'll love this documentary about the 1958 Newport jazz festival.

Ken Burns: The National Parks: Do you want a documentary that's not about music? Ken Burns' National Parks is a typically awesome series that is also appropriately patriotic for your holiday viewing.

Dog Day Afternoon: An obligatory addition to any summer movie list. If you're looking for a heist movie, look no further than this Sidney Lumet classic.

Beach Party: Frankie and Annette star in this campy 60's flick set in Southern California.

The 400 Blows: If French New Wave is more your style, The 400 Blows Criterion Collection is where it's at.

Grease 2: 'Cause let's face it. We all need a Cool Rider.
