Museum of Celebrity Leftovers Showcases Stars? Leftover Food

It’s no secret that the general public is fascinated with items once owned by celebrities, be it iconic memorabilia, a dazzling wedding ring, or even a cavity-ridden molar. However, a café in England has taken celebrity obsession to a new level by collecting and displaying the food celebrity diners have left behind.

Each time a celeb dines at The Old Boatstore, a quaint seaside café in Cornwall, owners Michael and Francesca Bennett scrape up the leftovers and display them in a special case on the wall. Prince Charles, Pete Doherty, and Michael Winner are just a few British celebrities who have contributed to the Museum of Celebrity Leftovers, and though the cake crumbs and sandwich crusts are in various states of decay tourists from the globe to continue to flock to the restaurant to see the motley collection.

"We're just amazed that it captured so many people's imagination,” owner Michael Bennett told BBC News. "Thanks to the internet the museum has an international following.”

English celebrities Hugh Denning, Jan Leeming, and John Woodvine have also left morsels behind at The Old Boatstore, with Mission Impossible III actor Eddie Marsan adding the last, and possibly final, leftovers. The Bennetts have put the café for auction (though the museum is not included) and aren’t sure what will become of the food collection once the restaurant changes hands. For his part, Michael Bennett hopes to find a new home for The Museum of Celebrity Leftovers so people can continue to enjoy the unique celebrity exhibit.

“It’s a piece of social history,” he said.
