New Bon Iver Album: June 20, 2011

Bon Iver mastermind Justin Vernon has been keeping busy since 2009’s EP, Blood Bank, and now, its been announced that there’s a forthcoming LP we can expect (yay!!). The record, reportedly titled Letters for Marvin, is set for release on June 20, 2011.
According to Rolling Stone, experimental saxophonist Colin Stetson and pedal-steel guitarist Greg Leisz were asked to contribute to the new record. The LP will feature ten new songs, including “Perth,” which Vernon describes as a “Civil War-sounding heavy metal song,” “Minnesota Wisconsin,” and the closing track “Beth/Rest,” which Vernon says is “the part where you pick up your joint and relight it.”
Bon Iver’s “Woods,” from the Blood Bank EP was sampled on Kanye West’s latest record, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy on the song “Lost in the World.”
Bon Iver was founded in 2007 and consists of Vernon, Michael Noyce, Sean Carey, and Matthew McCaughan. Vernon independently released the band’s debut album, For Emma, Forever Ago in July 2007 – the majority of which was recorded while spending three months in a remote cabin in Northwestern Wisconsin. The band’s moniker comes from Vernon’s stint with mononucleosis – a play on the spelling of the French term “bon hiver,” meaning “good winter,” Vernon dropped the "h" in “hiver” because it reminded him too much of “liver” – the site of his illness.
