Samuel L. Jackson Narrates ?Go the F--- to Sleep,? a ?Children?s Book for Adults?

As any parent knows, getting a child to sleep can be a major hassle. Kids kick, they scream, they whine. They demand more juice or another blanket or refuse to consider the idea of sleep at all. Rutgers professor Adam Mansbach captures the frustration of this experience in his new “children’s book for adults,” Go the F--- to Sleep, a book that has rocketed up the Amazon bestseller list and attracted the voice talent of actor Samuel L. Jackson.

Mansbach got the idea for the book after spending countless hours trying to coax his two-year-old daughter Vivien to sleep. The professor jokingly posted a note on Facebook one night, “Look out for my forthcoming children's book, Go the F--- to Sleep,” and though Mansbach originally had no intention of writing the book, he did, and it quickly became a hit. In April, Go the F--- to Sleep hit No. 2 on Amazon.com’s bestseller list.

For the most part, parents have responded favorably to Mansbach’s humorous book, partially because it validates their feelings of anger and frustration when their beloved child refuses to go to bed. In an interview with NPR, Mansbach recalled parents’ responses as:

"I feel much less alone; when I'm in the bedroom putting the kid to bed and missing dinner, or a glass of wine, or the only conversation I was going to have that day, I feel much better knowing that there are millions of people across the world dealing with the same problem and thinking the same words."

Last night, Samuel L. Jackson stopped by The Late Show With David Letterman to read an excerpt of the popular book. Check out the video below, as well as an uncensored version of Jackon's narration of Go the F--- to Sleep for audible.com. NSFW, obviously.
