Universal announced recently that quite a few artists had donated songs for a compilation CD to benefit the Japanese Red Cross Society.

The album, Songs for Japan, features thirty eight tracks from today’s hottest artists and a few iconic legends. It is a very eclectic collection with a little bit of everything offered. There’s rap, country, pop and a bit of classic rock. Lady Gaga, R.E.M, Foo Fighters, Sade, Pink and Cee Lo Green to name a few all have tracks on the album. It would be hard to be disappointed with this collection.

John Lennon’s Imagine kicks off the album with Bob Dylan’s Shelter From The Storm following it. Quite a few songs including Bruce Springsteen’s Human Touch and Elton John’s Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me.  are appropriate picks for the project.

Universal opted to release the album digitally as it was the fastest way to get it to market. A digital release also insures a worldwide audience immediately. It will sell for $9.99 on iTunes with all proceeds being donated to relief efforts.

Japan will be rebuilding for years to come and every little bit the Japanese Red Cross can raise will be put to good use.
