"Sons of Anarchy" Creator Kurt Sutter Sells Bizarre Comedy to FX

The man behind the wildly popular motorcycle-gang drama, Sons of Anarchy, Kurt Sutter, has apparently sold a "hilarious half-hour comedy" to the TV network FX. The network announced on September 6th that they had signed a deal with Sutter to write a comedy pilot titled Diva. Clown. Killer.

If it sounds weird to you, you're not alone. But Sutter says it's not too out of the ordinary for him.

"I look at SOA as being an intense drama, where the murder and mayhem are made palatable by absurd, dark humor. This half-hour will be an absurd, dark comedy where the story is fueled by murder and mayhem."

Hmm, okay.

It's described as, well, a "dark, absurd comedy," and it will focus on a "has-been rock diva, her dysfunctional son who makes his living as a kid's party clown, and of course, an assassin," Sutter says.

However, FX may have blown the lid off of potential SOA spoilers, claiming the new comedy could be "potentially a starring vehicle for Katey Segal," who works on SOA, "depending on her availability."

Segal plays Gemma on SOA, and though that statement sounds a bit spoilery in terms of what's in store for her character, Sons of Anarchy has only a 13-episode season, so she could theoretically work on both projects. Also slated to work on Diva. Clown. Killer is Belle Zwerlding.
