?Teen Mom? Amber Portwood Loses Primary Custody of Daughter

Amber Portwood loses custody of her daughter

Amber Portwood has had a rough year – from having a child at a young age, to constantly quarreling with the child’s father, Gary, to having to appear in court over charges of battery and neglect. Unfortunately for the Teen Mom star, things don’t look to be getting any easier. Portwood’s home and car were recently vandalized, and as a result, Portwood has lost primary custody of her 2-year-old daughter, Leah.

The change in custody puts Leah in her father’s, Gary Shirley’s, care. Reports maintain that the custody changeover has little to do with Portwood’s upcoming trial for felony and misdemeanor battery and felony neglect of a dependent. Portwood will appear in court stemming from an altercation she had with Shirley that was captured on MTV cameras.

Instead, Child Protective Services has said they are concerned with Leah’s safety and living conditions after the vandalism. Portwood will be allowed to see her daughter, but a visitation schedule has yet to be made.

Portwood agrees that it is an “unsafe” environment for her daughter. The custody terms are only in effect “until further notice.”

Portwood recently rejected a plea deal over her charges – one that would have kept her out of jail. She thought the promised sentence of “house arrest” would prevent her from parenting. Portwood now has 60 days to accept a new deal, or she will go to trial.
