?The Expendables 2? is New Box Office Leader

Last week, The Bourne Legacy ruled the box office, but this week belongs to The Expendables 2. The star-studded sequel enjoyed a $28.7 million debut over the weekend, pushing The Bourne Legacy to second place. Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Chuck Norris, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, Liam Hemsworth, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Bruce Willis, and Arnold Schwarzenegger star in the action-packed film.
Though The Bourne Legacy fell to the Expendables sequel, it earned $17 million over the weekend, enough to keep newcomers ParaNorman, Sparkle, and The Odd Life of Timothy Green at bay. The fourth film in the Bourne franchise has a total gross profit of $69.5 million. New release ParaNorman came in third with a $14 million debut. Featuring a voice cast of Kodi Smit-McPhee, Tucker Albrizzi, Anna Kendrick, Casey Affleck, and John Goodman, among others, ParaNorman is about a boy who talks to the dead. Newcomer Sparkle rounds out the list of top five box office performers with earnings of $12 million. Sparkle stars Jordin Sparks, Derek Luke, Mike Epps, Cee Lo Green, and the late Whitney Houston.The Dark Knight Rises fell to number six with a box office take of $11.1 million, bringing its total gross earnings to just over $409 million. New release The Odd Life of Timothy Green, starring Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton, opened at number seven with earnings of $10.9 million.
Hope Springs, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days, and Total Recall round out the list of top ten earners with respective weekend profits of $9.1, $3.8, and $3.5 million. This weekend brings the release of three new films – The Apparition, Hit & Run (which opens Wednesday), and Premium Rush. Check back next week to see how the newcomers fare. Box Office Mojo
