The Postal Service Announce Tour to Coincide with "Give Up" 10th Anniversary
About two weeks ago, The Postal Service (not to be confused with the United States Postal Service) announced they would be reuniting, but not much detail was given. Their website was updated to read simply, "The Postal Service 2013" with no other information. Shortly thereafter, news broke that their 2003 album (the band's only album) Give Up would be rereleased in a deluxe version and that the band would perform at this year's Coachella festival. Now, they've announced a tour to coincide with the album's tenth anniversary.
The Postal Service's reunion is the latest in a long line of bands teaming back up with their old pals and hitting the road again; yesterday, we brought you news about Fall Out Boy, and in late 2012, Further Seems Forever released their first album in 11 years.
The tour isn't expansive, and only hits a few cities in the western half of the states and a few overseas. Furthermore, there's no word of new music to be released. Back in October 2012, Give Up went platinum, and just a few days before, one of the band's members, Ben Gibbard (who fronts Death Cab for Cutie) told Spinner, "There are no plans to make a second record. I can't say that enough."
While new music would be the best news for Postal Service fans, they may have to settle for a short tour and the rerelease. We think they might be hiding something, though—Fall Out Boy's bassist had a similar sentiment just two days before the band announced a new album, so it's safe to say anything's possible.
