"The Voice" Recap: Team Blake & Team Christina Lose 2 Crowd Favorites During Instant Elimination

Monday night’s episode of The Voice was not only full of fantastic performances, but it had its fair share of shockers as well. Team Blake and Team Christina took the stage in group numbers with their coaches and then battled it out to earn their spot in the top three.  Adam Levine also took the stage with his bandmates in Maroon 5 and Wiz Khalifa to perform thier newest single "Payphone" off of their upcoming album Overexposed.  Though the show was full of amazing moments and performances, the instant eliminations at the end of the show left two of America’s favorites heading home. Who did they send? We’ve got the scoop on the show’s highlights for you right here!

RaeLynn from Team Blake has been questioned in the past. She’s young and maybe not as well-practiced as some of the other contestants, but she definitely earned her stay fair and square with her unbelievable rendition of Jason Aldean’s hit song “She’s Country.” Blake said it was the "most proud moment" he’s had for anyone on his team all season and that she just proved to America that country can kick ass!

Jesse Campbell took the stage dedicating his tune to his daughter. “Halo” by Beyonce was maybe not the best song for him, but he definitely performed well. Adam said that his ability is so crazy and that he’s capable of anything. Blake added that no one could say that the performance was anything less than great.

Jordis Unga sang Sara Evan’s song “A Little Bit Stronger” and showed a bit of her vulnerable side. The judges loved it. Blake went as far as to say she did perfect. He used his save a few weeks back to prevent her from being eliminated and this performance was definitely a solid reason for her to be on the stage still, but would the judges keep her for another week?

Ashley De La Rosa sang a song that pretty much everyone out there knows: Jewel’s “Foolish Games.” She started out a little soft, but powered through as soon as the chorus picked up. I think Ashley surprised everyone with this performance. Adam said this performance showed him all the potential that Christina saw in her. Blake also added that Christina’s choice to save her a few weeks back was probably the smartest decision in the competition so far this season.

Erin Willet was a bit of a disappointment for me, but fortunately for her I’m not a judge. She performed Adele’s “Set Fire to the Rain” and it could be because Adele is just an amazingly talented vocalist, but Erin didn’t quite do it justice in my opinion. She had some pitch issues and Adam said that there were also some phrasing problems, but her coach Blake enjoyed it and thought she tackled it well!

Lindsey Pavao has a crazy and unique voice, but this was definitely not one of my favorite performances. She sang Katy Perry’s most recent hit “Part of Me” and really switched up the song. Usually that’s an admirable effort, but I wasn’t a fan of her rendition. Christina and Cee Lo hadn’t heard the original song, so they didn’t have a point of reference. I’m pretty convinced that is the reason she was commended.

Chris Mann, the opera all-star, took a different direction this week performing Coldplay’s “Viva la Vida” with a twist. This contestant can do no wrong. His voice is powerful and pretty close to perfection. Christina praised him for stepping out of his comfort zone and for all the growth he’s shown so far.

Jermaine Paul was another amazing performer during the show. He sang a Phil Collins classic “Against All Odds” and owned it. Christina said that he is her favorite on Team Blake and loves the connection he gets to everything he sings. Blake agreed and said that this performance will be one of those that he looks back on as a turning point in his life.

At the end of the show, Christina and Blake were forced to knock one person off of their teams. It was a tough decision, but they had to do it and their choices quite literally shocked the hell out of everyone including their fellow judges. Christina made the difficult decision to cut Jesse Campbell and you can see the absolute astonishment in Adam’s face after she sends Jesse on his way. Blake joins in with another shocker, eliminating the very contestant that he saved just weeks prior. Jordis Unga was sent home despite the fact that Blake said her performance was perfect. Who saw that coming?
