"The Voice" Update: Team Adam and Team Cee Lo Make Their Eliminations

This week on The Voice the competition got fierce. Team Cee Lo and Team Adam fought it out to save themselves from elimination. Two contestants from each team would be sent home, leaving each coach with four people, three saved by America and one saved by them. Unfortunately for the judges, the contestants didn’t bring their A-game to the live performance portion of the show on Monday night. They waited until their heads were on the chopping block to show the world how talented they were. This left several incredibly talented crowd favorites heading home.

The elimination show started off with Team Adam, which despite his victory last season is extremely weak compared to the others. Host Carson Daly announced that America saved Mathai, Pip and Tony. Tony came as a bit of a surprise after Christina Aguilera ripped him a new one during the live performances, saying that he was one-dimensional and that the support he’s receiving from celebrities like Justin Timberlake makes for an unfair competition.

Left in the bottom three were Kim Yarbrough, Karla Davis and Katrina Parker. Kim has a killer range, but definitely has had some pitch problems throughout the competition. Karla Davis is good, but just lacks that powerhouse voice that America and the judges were hoping for. She does a mean Alanis Morissette cover, but other than that she hasn’t been an impressive contender. Katrina Parker stayed too safe this week performing Adele’s hit “Rolling in the Deep.” Fortunately for Katrina, her performance of No Doubt’s “Don’t Speak” earned her a save. Team Adam is now narrowed down to Mathai, Pip, Tony and Katrina.

Carson Daly took the stage to announce who America chose to save this week on Team Cee Lo. This would be a much more difficult elimination because let’s face it; Team Cee Lo is downright incredible this season. He’s got diversity in sound and just absolutely ridiculous talent on his side. It’s not too much of a surprise that America saves Juliet Simms and Jamar Rogers. Both of those contestants make themselves impossible to forget each week. Now, I know that James Massone is favored by girls across the country, but he didn’t deserve to be saved this week in my opinion. Tony Vincent, Cheesa and Erin Martin were left in the bottom three.

Tony Vincent is an unbelievable performer. He takes the stage and captivates his audience not only with his voice, but with his bizarre and eerie presence. I thought for sure that he would be granted Cee Lo’s save, but then Cheesa came out and belted out “All By Myself” like she wrote the song herself. There’s no denying it. This girl can sing! The problem is, there’s nothing unique about her or her voice. She’s great, but not memorable. As for Erin Martin, she’s a very pretty girl but singing is not her forte. It was no surprise that she was cut. Her voice is unique, but she lacks range and versatility. If not for her skimpy ensembles each week America probably wouldn’t remember her either. Team Cee Lo is now left with Juliet Simms, Jamar Rogers, James Massone and Cheesa. Tune in next week to see who is cut next! While you wait, enjoy some of the stand out performances from this week!
