"The Voice" Update: Team Cee Lo Dominates Team Adam & 2 Contestants Are Eliminated

On Monday night’s episode of The Voice, Team Adam and Team Cee Lo competed yet again to stay in the competition. With only four contestants left on each team, eliminations became an incredibly difficult part of the coaches’ job and at the end of the night two more talented individuals took their final walk off the stage.
Team Cee Lo
There is no denying that this team has the most amazing talent of the season. Jamar Rogers, James Massone, Cheesa and Juliet Simms each took the stage and gave outstanding performances, leaving Cee Lo in what has probably been his most difficult decision in the competition so far.
Jamar performed his own unbelievably emotional rendition of “It’s My Life.” The words and just every aspect of that song struck a chord with the audience and the judges. You could tell he put every piece of himself into that performance and it proved to be worth it. He wowed every judge and it was pretty obvious he would be safe from the second he started singing.
Next up was James Massone. He is absolutely the heartthrob in the competition. For whatever reason, his soft and delicate voice totally melts the souls of women all around the country each week. He performed Billy Joel’s “Just The Way You Are” and did the song justice, but the majority of the judges didn’t seem overly impressed.
Cheesa is a powerhouse! She took on a tough song this week and crushed it! Singing Whitney Houston’s “I Have Nothing” could have gone horribly wrong. Those were big shoes to fill and since the star’s death people have probably been more critical of performances like this just out of respect. It’s safe to say that if she was still here, Whitney Houston would have been proud.
Rock star Juliet Simms looked like a Victoria’s Secret Angel from the dark side when she took the stage with enormous black wings on her back. She screamed, sang and rocked her heart out on that stage to “Cryin’” and left Cee Lo and America amazed.
When it came down to decision time, Cee Lo read some heart-felt words he’d typed into his cell phone and assured all of them that they were incredibly talented. James Massone was the one to go. The whole time James was hugging Cee Lo goodbye you could just hear the celebrity saying, “I gotchu,” over and over. I’m kind of getting the feeling that James might be getting a record deal anyway. What do you think?
Team Adam
Let’s be honest for a minute. Adam Levine is handsome, charismatic and insanely talented, but this season is just not going his way. With Katrina Parker, Mathai, Tony Luca and Pip left, Adam doesn’t really have a single contestant that has a shot of beating the talent on the other teams. Regardless, he still had a decision to make and all four of them did well tonight. They performed better tonight than they probably have in this whole season.
Katrina Parker created magic on the stage. That statement is positively undeniable. She sang Christina Perri’s “Jar of Hearts” and had the entire audience captivated. The song itself is a pretty emotional one, but you could tell that she was 100 percent into it and committed to it. It was beautifully done and easily the best performance she’s had so far.
Mathai was up next and she did OK. For some reason the judges really love her. I think she’s got a great and unique voice, but it’s kind of all over the place. She never sounds like she’s in tune to me and in her performance of “I’m Like a Bird,” it was worse than usual. Maybe I’m overly critical, but I wasn’t impressed at all. Were you?
Tony Luca was the man Monday night. Not because he gave an unbelievable performance, but because he delivered a smack-in-the-face of sorts to Christina Aguilera. She’s hounded him all season long, giving him flak for utilizing the support of fellow Mickey Mouse Club stars, like Justin Timberlake. Rather than lashing out at her verbally he performed Britney Spears’ “Baby One More Time” with his own twist. Amazing. It was unique and it left Blake and Adam laughing at Christina’s reaction. Maybe she would have been more pleased if he picked one of her tunes rather than her former nemesis.
Pip is adorable and has an incredible voice. I thought he did a solid performance of “Somewhere Only We Know,” and overall the judge’s seemed generally pleased. Unfortunately for Pip his time on the show came to an end. Adam had to eliminate someone and he was this week’s casualty. Many people have been outspoken about their disapproval of his decision, saying that we should have seen Mathai leave this week but what’s done is done.
Tune in tonight to see what happens next on The Voice!
