Warner Bros. May Alter ?Hangover 2? Face Tattoo for DVD

"Hangover 2" tattoo

Mike Tyson’s tattoo artist has accused Warner Bros. of ripping off his (and Mike Tyson’s) facial tattoo for the movie The Hangover 2, and in order to quell the artist’s complaints, the studio may be backing down. Warner Bros will digitally alter the tattoo design that appears on Ed Helms’ face in the film before the DVD is released.

S. Victor Whitmill filed a copyright infringement suit in April, hoping to stop the movie from being released, but his attempt failed. Warner Bros., however, filed court papers earlier this week stating it will digitally alter the tattoo for the DVD in an attempt to prevent the expedited trial that Whitmill has requested.

Lawyers for Warner Bros. said in the filing, “If the parties are unable to resolve their dispute, Warner Bros. does not intend to make any use of the allegedly infringing tattoo after the film ends its run in the theaters because Warner Bros. will digitally alter the film to substitute a different tattoo on Ed Helms’ face.”

The statement continues, “As a result, there is no reason for the highly accelerated trial Plaintiff has asked this Court to hold on Plaintiff’s request for a permanent injunction.

The two sides will attend a mediation hearing next week, and a court date is set for February 21, 2012.
